Last week, I had one of those days in which everything was inexplicably going wrong all at once. My alarm was set to "PM" instead of "AM", which hardly gave me time to get ready. I rinsed my hair, threw in some Miss Jessie's Leave in Condish, and booked it to the subway. Then I missed my train by a hair and literally watched the doors slam in my face, practically clipping the tip of my nose. Once I did catch my train and made my transfer, the second train was delayed due to a fire in one of the tunnels, so I had to haul my butt up three flights of stairs to get above ground, and keep my fingers crossed that I could catch a cab quickly, to make it work on time. As luck would have it, a cab rolled right in front of me, and without even checking to see if there was another passenger inside, I dove in like a rabid, crazed dolphin. Like a real New Yorker, I didn't even give the driver a chance to say, "no", just demanded she steps on it.
The only plus to this entire scenario is that though I was physically exhausted and emotionally frazzled, my hair was not. In fact, by the time I had gotten into the cab, my hair had air-dried to perfection, without frizz or fly-a-ways. I hadn't even noticed until my driver, a lovely woman from the Dominican Republic with a beautiful head of natural, tight coils, asked me, "Is that really your natural hair? How did you get so much volume and length? Also, for someone who looks so overheated and sweaty, you sure smell good! What shampoo/conditioner do you use? You have hair like a mermaid! What's your secret?"
After catching my breath, I exclaimed, " Thanks! No weave- all me. Have you never tried Miss Jessie's?! It's a curly girl's best friend!"
This then sparked a long conversation about every curly girl's concerns- dryness, frizz, damage, dyes, shrinkage, and most of all, finding the perfect product that adequately supplies the perfect balance of moisture and hold. Fortunately, Miss Jessie's line carries the perfect solution for every type of curl and coil. Since the Miss Jessie's Leave in Condish happened to be my saving grace on this particular day, I shared with my driver the benefits of this particular product, as well as the other conditioners Miss Jessie's carries.
Conditioning hair is perhaps the most significant step in any curly girly's styling process, as it sets up the foundation for the completed product. If you use a below-par conditioner, prepare for a long, arduous battle with your hair.

How do I use it?
This treatment an go on after your regular conditioner but before your styler. However, I have also used it as a substitute for my regular conditioner, on days when I want a clean, fresh palate, but don't have time to do my full out, regular shampoo and conditioner washing routine. I like to use it about 1-3 times a week, but the frequency of use depends on your hair's individual texture and propensity for dryness. For more info on this product, Click Here.

What does it do?
Super creamy and lightweight, this conditioner is great to use on a more regular basis. This has become my go-to conditioner, after almost every wash; after a nice shampoo, I will apply Créme de la créme to my hair, then comb through my locks with a wide-toothed comb. The tangles slip away with ease, leaving my hair soft, smooth, shiny, and ready to style. Also, it smells AMAZING!
How do I use it?
It is important for all curly-haired women to use conditioner after every shampoo. I like to use it about every 2- 3 times a week, balancing it out with the amount of times I also use the Leave in Condish, but the frequency of use depends on your hair's individual texture and propensity for dryness.

I also incorporate using one of Miss Jessie's deep conditioning treatments within this rotation- Rapid Recovery Treatment or the Super Sweetback Treatment. I do this about every 2 weeks, but for more details on the specifics of that process, tune into next week's blog!
